What is Femoroacetabular Impingement (FAI)?

FAI is a condition where abnormal bone growth causes friction between the femoral head and acetabulum, leading to joint damage over time. If untreated, FAI can progress to labral tears and early hip arthritis.

Types of FAI

• Cam Impingement – Excess bone growth on the femoral head, leading to restricted motion.
• Pincer Impingement – Extra bone growth on the acetabulum, causing excessive coverage.
• Mixed Impingement – A combination of both cam and pincer types.

Symptoms of FAI

• Deep groin pain, especially during movement.
• Stiffness and reduced hip range of motion.
• Clicking or catching sensations in the hip.

Diagnosis of FAI

• Physical Examination – Special tests like the FADIR test to assess impingement.
